Hogwarts Legacy Delayed Release on PS4 and Xbox One until May 5, 2023
The Hogwarts Legacy game has just been released for a number of next-gen platforms and PCs some time ago. Even so, older console gamers seem to have a little more patience.
Through an announcement on Twitter, the game developer stated that the Hogwarts Legacy release schedule for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One, will be postponed to May 5, 2023 or a month later than it should be.
“The team is working hard to provide the best experience across all platforms and we need more time to do this,” said the official Hogwarts Legacy Twitter account, quoted on Wednesday (8/3/2023).
“Hogwarts Legacy will launch for PS4 and Xbox One May 5, 2023,” they added on their @HogwartsLegacy account.
Previously, Hogwarts Legacy on PS4 and Xbox One, was scheduled for release on April 4, 2023, after launching on PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Apart from that, this game should also be released on the Nintendo Switch on July 25, 2023. It is unknown whether the schedule will also be affected by delays on PS4 and Xbox One consoles or not.
Quoting Gamesradar , procrastination is no stranger to Hogwarts Legacy. This game was supposed to be released in 2021, but was pushed back to December 2022, before the initial release was pushed back to February 2023.
Hogwarts Legacy was once dogged by controversy due to a statement by the creator of the world of Harry Potter, JK Rowling, who was considered transphobic. In fact, the streamers who played it were bullied by some netizens.
The boycott was in vain. Quoting Gamerant , Warner Bros. Interactive revealed, Hogwarts Legacy grossed USD 850 million in its first two sales weeks, with 12 million copies sold.
In addition, the game set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter is also one of the biggest Steam games of all time, if you count the number of concurrent players.
Not a Direct Adaptation of the Harry Potter Story
Although Hogwarts Legacy tells a story set in the Harry Potter universe, Portkey Games as a publisher said that this game is not a direct adaptation of an existing book or film.
However, the story is still rooted in the universe created by JK Rowling.
Hogwarts Legacy is a single player RPG game with an open world concept . Players will assume the role of students at Hogwarts school of magic with a setting in the wizarding world of the 1800s.
Players will be invited to take various journeys in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, while developing their abilities. Players can learn to cast spells, make potions, and tame magical animals in the world.
In this game, players determine their dorm at Hogwarts as well as personalize the characters they play. Along with the development, players can also develop their own fighting style.
Could Be the Wicked Witch
Interestingly, Hogwarts Legacy is said to have no moral system in its games. Therefore, players can determine their own story, including being a good or evil wizard.
Unfortunately, one of the iconic sports in the world of Harry Potter, namely Quidditch, will not appear in this game. Nevertheless, it is still possible for players to ride broomsticks to travel, including participating in competitions.
Even though it carries the Harry Potter universe, this Hogwarts Legacy game features an original story without any direct intervention from the author of the book, namely JK Rowling.
Hogwarts Legacy Set in the 1800’s
Hogwarts Legacy also introduces a host of new characters ranging from professors, students, villains, mentors and mystical beings, but also characters that are well known from the novels and films.
However, given the time setting in the 1800s, players will not meet the central trio of the main Harry Potter series namely Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.
Because it carries the open world genre, players can explore other places outside of Hogwarts, fly using a magic broom, and make friends with other characters to adventure together.
